Lash Adhesive Powder, it is the new product that everyone is adding to their Korean or Glueless lash lift - but do you really understand why we need it and how it works? We’re so used to just adding in something because it’s trending, but I want to take the time to explain it to you. So here we are, Lash Adhesive powders - how the hell do they work?
Adhesive Powders must be used during Korean/Glueless methods when the solution is too thin to hold the lashes on their own. If your solution is thick enough to hold the lashes, there is no need to add any powder.
These Adhesive Powders are based on Acrylic Polymers to provide a thickening effect.
If you really want to get technical, the Acrylic Polymers can be
- Hydroxyethyl Acrylate
- Sodium Acryloyldimethyl
- Taurate Copolymer
These all work well with a variety of ingredients & chemicals, which means you can use any brand powder with any brand solution (unlike say tint, where you must use the same brand tint + developer.) this means you can stick with your favourite Lash Lift solution but switch up what powder you’re using.
These adhesive powders do not change the chemical strength of your Lash Lift solutions, but you will need longer processing times, here’s why:
Due to the increased viscosity (thickness) of your solution, penetration of the reducing agent (ingredient that breaks the disulphide bonds) into the hair shaft is slowed
In simpler terms: it is taking longer for the disulphide bonds to even start breaking. And you need the disulphide bonds to break, to then rebuild them in their new lifted position (yes, even though we are all focused on “gentle” lash lifts right now - you need to break the bonds in order to get a lift!! …more on that later maybe?)
Okay sooooo, what are adhesive powders even for then?
Lash Lift powder is designed to add tackiness and thickness to your Lash Lift solution, allowing you to adjust and work with the solution as you need to hold the lashes to the shield in the Korean method.
Pro Tip: Start by mixing small amounts of powder to your solution, and if that works, perfect. If you need it to be thicker add some more powder as needed, take your time just ensuring that your mixture is always mixed well, with no visible granules.
While you’re here, just a reminder to never let the powder (or solution with powder) touch the clients skin. Adhesive powder is formulated to suck the moisture out of anything it touches (creating thickness in your solution) but if that touches skin, sucking moisture out of skin will lead to irritation & reactions. If you accidentally get a little on a client, remove with a wet disposable immediately.
My personal favourite Adhesive Powder is InLei S-Powder - I have found it is the easiest to work with. It is quite thin, so dissolves into your product quite quickly - it also creates more of a tackiness then any other powders I have tried! Normally you are just using the thickness of the solution to hold the lashes down, but the added tackiness/stickiness you get with InLei S-Powder makes all the difference when you’re sitting behind a client sweating that the lashes just!!! won’t!! stay!!! down!!!
This powder is also Vegan Certified, made in Italy & works with all Lash Lift systems! Try it out and let me know if you like it.
I hope this helped, send us though a message if you have any other questions xx
With love,
Tiana
